Seven Years Ago Poem by Suman Pal

Seven Years Ago

I

This Earth
That survives till now,
Declining gradually
With incinerated memories.

This World
That some time,
Seven Years Ago,
Was Ours,
Languishing today,
With degenerated pietism.

Seven Years Ago,
One Day,
One Rainy World,

II

Seven Years Ago,
One Day,
One Rainy Morning,

Those,
Who were lovers,
Holding hands together
Swiftly crossed such windy roads.
Today,
That is a dead history
At the bend of the path
Slowly all footprints eroded,
And carefully,
All the vestiges obliterate,
Embracing Time's oppression.

III

Seven Years Ago,
One Day,
One Rainy Night,

Those,
Who were lovers,
With small hearts
Dreaming edifices
In little hut
Today,
They are sleepless
In homeless world,
Turning wandering migrants
Inside own hearts.

IV

Seven Years Ago,
One Day,
One Rainy Evening ,

Those,
Who were Lovers,
Taking warm repose
In the shade of trees,
On the bank of pond,
Today,
They reign
In boastful palaces
That every day
Breaks and Moulds
And all the palpitations
Reduces into inutile dust.

V

Seven Years Ago,
One Day,
One Rainy World,
Of Hope and Purity.
One Rainy Morning,
Of Love and Trust.
One Rainy Night,
Of Unity and Pity.
One Rainy Evening,
Of Gratification and Simplicity.
Seven Years Ago,
One Day.
