They Knew It Would Come... Poem by Sarah Ali

They Knew It Would Come...

Rating: 5.0

when they were young.
it was a different, different kind of fun
recalling all the songs together they had sung

every clear night
staring at the stars
contemplating whether tomorrow would be bright

gazing at the sea
while sitting on the coast
creating ways of spreading joy like jam on a toast

wandering clasping hands
exploring new lands
writing different poems

with sweet and sorrow rhymes
all about times
spent together

somewhat in their hearts
they knew it won't last
forever

they knew they would meet that dark, dark night
they would be out sight
a thought we mostly dread

and although very sad
they knew they had a role
which had been played

and then it reached, that very night
separated them with all of its might
coz life was fast, faster than them

and when it passed
it never looked behind then
these are the rules of the game

we can't complain
for everyone they are the same
oh! we can't complain...
