Thinking Especially Of You*
On the 9th of August
my first waking thoughts will be of you.
While you lie softly sleeping
my best wishes, shall watch gently over you.
Until the moment you wake Meltem, to read
this verse I’ve written, especially for you.
May all people in loving friendship
treat you kindly, as I would surely do.
May threads of woven magic
surround you like spun gold.
While exotic flowers of great wonder,
perfume the air the air you breathe,
like paradise, so you may walk there too.
Yes all this day your birthday
I wish these things for you.
Till I must finally sleep
and can no longer think of you.
