This Girl Is Me Poem by Samantha White

This Girl Is Me

Hiding behind laughs, smiles, and happiness,
Her bright blue eyes are filled with pain and fright.
But at first glance no one would ever guess,
the great battle she is trying to fight.

In her mind is a fight for life or death,
at night she tosses and turns through her dreams.
How much longer ‘till she takes her last breathe?
Will she ever understand what this means?

As droplets of blood fall onto the ground,
and she looks down at the knife in her hand.
She stands on a cliff, darkness all around,
wondering how much longer she can stand.

Some dreams turn into thoughts that haunt you,
some thoughts can turn into reality.
She’s beginning to not know what to do;
this is not the girl that she wants to be.

Though what she’s going through no one can see,
I understand because this girl is me.
