This Morning Poem by Rusty Ed Gibson

This Morning

I woke up drunk in the back of my truck this morning.
seems to be some things I don’t recall
4 am came without a warning
just like the rain that woke me from it all

I don’t remember talking to all these people
telling jokes and running loose like mad
I don’t remember wobbling like a weeble
or thinking the neighbors dog was old grand dad

I don’t remember talking to Johnny Walker
or playing hide and seek with his brother Jack
I don’t recall trying to walk on water
or knocking old Jim Beam on his back

Some say that I was singing with Jose
talking to all the pretty girls walking by
taking my tractor out on the freeway
and thinking it was really gonna fly

Some things should probably go without saying
like I’m sorry for all the things I said and did
For some things I am sure I’ll end up paying
other things I’ll wish I never did

I woke up drunk in the back of my truck this morning
how my mattress got there I’ll never know
I slept right through the thunder and the storming
until up my nose the rain began to blow

They say I started talking to GlenLevits
about politics and women we both knew
I was blaming my divorces on Einstein’s physics
and all the beer Colorado ever brewed

They say I picked a fight with old Smirnoff
and blamed him for the war with Japan
I got all worked up and began to twist off
like the bottle of cold beer in my hand

Some things should probably go without saying
like I am real ashamed of what I did
But if I said tonight I won’t be partying
I’d be letting down the Captain and my friends.

I’d be Letting Down My Drinking Friends!
