Thou Hast Been Our Dwelling Place Poem by Noel Horlanda

Thou Hast Been Our Dwelling Place

Rating: 5.0

Note: This is a lesson that we learned from the recent
Metro Manila & Central Luzon flood, Sep.26,2009
The theme is inspired from the Book of Psalms

Earth, thou hast been our dwelling place
For all these years and generations to come
Thou art belongs to the universe, not ours
To own, to abuse thy wealth within thee
Before us, the sea, heavens, mountains,
And everything within, without
Thou art already Earth
Thou turnest man to destroy thee
And never give complaint
In the morning, care thee for us
They are like grass which groweth up
In the morning to come,
Thy servants flourisheth and groweth more
And in the evening without thy knoweth
Thy servants cut thee down and withereth
By thine anger, are we consumed
By thy wrath, are we troubled
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee
Threescore years and ten,
Fourscore years, thy servants carriest
To offend thy goodness, labour and sorrow
We knoweth the power of thy anger
That soon thy servants’ death is nigh
We will be cut off, we fly away forever
Oh Earth, give us thy wisdom
To teach us to number our days of fear
To teach us to repent and satisfy us
Early with thy mercy
That we may rejoice and be glad all our days
Oh Earth our only dwelling place
Forgive us, have mercy on us all! .

Very well written Sir in old English. Yes! Mother Earth had accommodated us. But we are trying the destroy her. Now we know the effects of Her wrath. Very good lesson you taught us. I wrote in my earlier days of poetics, a poem titled MOTHER'S PLAINT on industrialisation..... We both expressed similar sentiments regarding Earth. Thanks for referring me this wonderful piece. I pray Mother Earth to cool down her temper and preserve her children, the mankind.

It is an allegorical poem and it contains the personification of the Earth Mother. Gaia (or Gaea) is the personification of the Earth, who first emerged at the dawn of creation. She gave birth to the sky, and the sea, and all mortal creatures sprung from her earthly womb. The knowledge and direct experience of the Great Goddess has been obscured by our repression of nature and disrespect for our Mother Earth. We are facing a world crisis involving extreme weather conditions, food shortages and epidemics. Excellent poem, very well written.10++++++++++
