To Bring You A Taste Of Pride Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

To Bring You A Taste Of Pride

I wish there was something I could say,
To encourage the removal of those shackles.
Even in your dismay...
You are obedient.
But when I come near,
You bark.
When I approach to unlock your chains...
You sneer and growl.
As if I had done this,
To you.
Something I could never do.

You have been restrained too long,
From a 'self' that has been denied.
You bark at me!
Perhaps I am wrong,
To make attempts...
To bring you a taste of pride.
I will leave it here with the key.
Leaving you with more than one choice,
From which to decide.
