To My Old Demented Mother Poem by Khairul Ahsan

To My Old Demented Mother

Rating: 5.0

You burned your hands and cooked my food,
Your face was scorched by the blazing heat
And the hot flames of the earthen oven.

The same two hands I see tremble today,
Seeking to hold mine and take a step
Or just wipe over my face to feel if it's the same.

Your face is wrinkled and eyes hazy…
You look afar through the bedside window,
Towards the path I take for my home coming!

But come home when I really do,
Alas! You find a stranger who you never knew,
Tears well up in my eyes, as I look at you!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Remembering my old mother, who is suffering from dementia. Sadly, she recognizes me no more as her son!
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Kumarmani Mahakul 13 May 2018

A mother is ever graceful to her all children. Facing warmness or hotness of fire or summer she prepares food for children and serve. She waits for her child's homecoming eagerly. Mother's face shines ever in affection and we feel her tenderness. This is a great tribute poem to your mother. We offer our prayer before Allah for recovering her from dementia. This poem is outstanding...10

The grace of her face, the content smile, and the skirt at the head, all are stating to God, my son has always been nice to me, Have I done anything ever, that was liked by you, will you please like to pay, may be a high a high price! I want nothing for me but give all that he thinks to ask from you, but never asked, I know you listen to the prayers of a silent heart, my son speaks very little, he has a lot inside but all is masked!

I am overwhelmed by your thoughtful words, dear poet @Akhtar Jawad Sahab. You have, as though, prayed for me on my mother's behalf, at the advent of Holy Ramadhan. My gratitude....

Dear Poet @Bharati Nayak, You have very rightly said, 'Mother's love is unconditional - -There is always a prayer on her lips for the well being of child.' Appeciate your thoughtful comment. I am also touched by your prayers for my mother and me. Thank you, Bharati.
