He was born in West Sumatra
He was also known as Peto Syarif

He was heavily involved
In the Paderi movement

Which sought bravely to do away
With opium smoking, gambling, cockfighting

People didn’t want to be ruled by the Dutch
And had joined forces with the Paderis

Despite valiant fighting
Colonialists military power prevailed

The Dutch captured him
Exiled him to Cianjur, West Java

Then to Ambon, Maluku Island
And later to Manado, Sulawesi
