Ukraine - Russia War - How Long Will Their Vendetta Last? Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Has hell descended in Ukraine
as fires keep rising
as bombs keep exploding
as my eyes keep watching
the tragedies, the calamities,
the devastation, the disaster
that is aggravating day after day,
hour after hour without any cease-fire?

Is this humanity or is this cruelty,
is this massacre or is this brutality?
is this spitefulness or is this vendetta
is this the limit of hostility or
is this the perimeter of enmity,
I ask myself these questions and shudder
as I look at the war that is so outrageous.

Is this not the apex of atrocity or
is this not the pinnacle of injustice
as so many innocent lives keep fading away
into that fire of fiery explosions
that keep rising like volcanoes everywhere
with the lava of extinction blowing mercilessly;

and as more and more missiles keep bursting
so many more cities keep facing the wrath
so many lives keep getting subdued
so many people keep getting injured or dead
in those houses that collapse
in those streets that they walk
by those fires and bombs that explode
so mightily, so pitilessly, so ceaselessly.

And I ask myself again and again-
where has mercy hidden its face
where has compassion lost its way
where has the world concealed its assistance?
Where will people find a safe place to breathe
where will people find a safe place to sleep
where will people find a safe haven to rest?

And as I see those pictures of the war,
I know it is real and not a war movie,
that in the night my eyes cant close
when in my vision I see helplessness
running parallel to a principle called life
detonated by war that is so imposing,
so callous, so destructive.

And I ask myself every night
as I fall asleep
'Will no one care to put off that hell-fire
out there in Ukraine? '
And I want to tell the Presidents
to have mercy on humanity
in the name of бог (God)
and to stop the vengeance and hate,
to re-calculate the worth of peace.
and to discard the futility of war.
