Un-Person Poem by Barry Van Allen

Un-Person

Rating: 5.0

Spring anticipation,
March was close at hand,
enough of slush and snow,
... our meeting was unplanned!

Eagle eye, fox sly,
keeping up defenses,
an intensity of presence,
passing unmolested.

She was gone in just a moment,
but, with me through the day again,
we loved as none before, one time,
we never wrote and never spoke,
... our lives were so defined.

In just a passing on the street,
I saw our difference and our sameness once again,
as clear as all the day, again,
I still cannot define it,
and in my mind cannot align it,
... but, there is no way to deny it!

There is a certain memory,
while differences may be,
it is not wrong to be remembered,
as a time when life was sweet.

She does not fit today, alas...
but, only in the past,
what can be said, is not appropriate,
what can be felt , does not belong,
what is remembered, not forgotten,
what once was right, today is wrong.

But, once WE were!
