Untitled Poem by Jade Baker

Will you remember me,
What will my legacy be,
When I am gone,
Will you think of me,
Will you cherish every memory,
If I died today,
What will my tribute say

How can you wait to die,
Knowing how close the end lies,
How can you not be afraid,
As the world starts to fade,
How can you say goodbye,
Seeing the ones you love cry,
How can you give in to the darkness,
That is pulling at you,
When all you want to do is live,
How can you turn away from the bright light,
As you see your life pass before your eyes,

I see the look in their eyes,
Defeated yet terrified,
All here for different reasons,
Yet all have one thing in common,
Their days on earth are numbered,
As they wait for their sentences to be carried out,
Waiting for the grim reaper to do his rounds,
Each will have to pay the ultimate penalty,
Even as they protest that they’re not guilty,
They all know that their time is running out,
Their fate is clear,
As the fateful date nears,
There’s only one way out of here,
They all know where the next stop will be,
And only then will they be free
