Us

Don’t you think we resemble?
Two eyes, two ears, one nose?
So, what is it that differentiates us?
What is it that creates a wall?
The blood in my veins,
Fails to discern,
Whether I wear a cap,
Or apply vermilion.
An upheaval time and again,
What was the cause this time?
Huh! Hardly anyone knows.
Demonization of me,
Demonization of you,
Demonization of being born a human.
My old granny sits quiet at the window,
Relishing vermicelli in her dreams,
Do you hear me?
Dreams, a hallucination...
My brother reveals his best bowler,
My dad remembers his evening tea,
My mom misses her colony newsreader,
I reminisce my co-backbencher.
Come and hold my hand,
Never, ever let it go,
Hand in hand,
Fingers hooked into one another’s,
We stand in harmony, in love,
We stand in togetherness.
We’ll run through the streets,
Singing our Christmas carols,
And see what Johnny has got for us.
And let’s pray this Christmas,
We may be born,
Sparrows, crickets,
Whatever...
Forever and more,
But not humans,
Not to be demonized again.
We’ll walk past the parliament,
Holding tricolor in our hands,
There is something else we hold dearer,
There is something else,
That defines me,
That defines you,
That defines us.

You are right, Neha, there is something else that defines all of us. I like the following lines, what a tragic irony for human beings not to be born as human being again: We may be born, Sparrows, crickets, Whatever... Forever and more, But not humans, Not to be demonized again Best Wishes Naseer
