Waiting To Be A Wife Poem by Randy McClave

Waiting To Be A Wife

It doesn't take 5 or 6 years for a man to decide
If she's the right woman to have at his side,
So, why must she patiently wait and tarry
Maybe hoping that soon someday he'll ask her to marry.
I wonder why such the very long wait
Is she just acceptable only to have sex with and date,
Why must she wait and wait for that bonding ring
I wonder if it might be some other thing.
Why does he not want to give her his surname
Does the thought of that just gives him ultimate shame,
Is she just good enough to only be his girlfriend
Where she cooks and cleans and will care for him until the end.
If she were the one to propose what would he say
"Thank You! But, No! maybe another day",
But, unto him she continually swears that she'll never depart
Maybe there is another woman holding tightly onto his heart.
Why didn't he ask her to be his future as his wife
Is it because he doesn't want a future with her to share his life,
Or is it because he believes that she can't be trusted
Or maybe with her he's just tired and bored of, or maybe disgusted.
He has been with her for over 5 years now
Through good times and bad times still there is no commitment or vow,
So, how long I wonder will he be stringing her along
Will he ever allow her to wear her dress and hear her wedding song.
