Walking With My Dad Poem by Hazel Durham

Walking With My Dad

Rating: 4.7

Walking with my dad along a country lane in County Sligo,
I had felt the freedom and beauty of this land
Flowing through my inner being,
I was safe in the warmth of his love,

Walking with my dad in the untamed wilderness of County Sligo,
Through the landscape bursting with growth and shimmering
In the dying sunlight
Shimmering in the dying light,

The light of my dad's bluest eyes,
The light of my dad's laugh, his smile,
Loving you dad always,
Days of light,

Days of night,
Days when I look for his guidance,
Days when my dad is always right,
Moonlight and sunlight,

Memories of my dad's dancing bluest eyes
Shining even in the darkest night.

You hurt my heart, girl... my Father died in 2003 and it hurts to think of him suddenly in the midst of the day and realize all over again that he is gone and I'll never travel the United States of America with him again. You have written your Father a loving tribute, Hazel, and I bet he is smiling down on you to hear the love you have for him. So beautifully written, smoothly flowing, like one of the streams you've probably walked beside together- 10++++++++++ and on my fav list
