War Of Words Poem by Grace Diane Jessen

War Of Words

Rating: 5.0

The news we hear may not be really news
for some folks claim that much of it is fake.
Reporters, politicians state their views
and stars of sports and movies air their take
on every issue. Citizens can't tell
which to believe, who tells the truth, who lies.
The canker spreads, the country feels unwell,
a cure requires old wisdom, open eyes.
I, too, must watch my words and tend my tongue
lest I contribute to this foul disease.
A speech can't be unspoken, songs unsung.
Our posted, twittered thoughts fly far. Who sees
and reads we never know, we can't undo.
Repeating gossip doesn't make it true.

As Belle said, this is indeed a wonderful sonnet. The last line is exceptionally good. Nothing could be more true than that. Cinco estrellas!
