Way up in the apple tree
There sits two turtle doves
Carrying in the sticks
Making a nest with their love
Way up in the apple tree
She lays her eggs in the nest
Then sits on them day and night
There won't be time for any rest
They will take turns sitting on eggs
While the other goes out to eat
For they are true love birds
That predators would like to eat
Way up in the apple tree
The eggs get turned every day
Until it's time to hatch
Then the shells will be thrown away
The day those eggs begin to hatch
Those doves will be busy for a while
Carrying food to those chicks
with their own kind of style
Way up in the apple tree
There sits two turtle doves
A prime example of what is needed
To teach us about true love
