We Can Fool The World, Not God! Poem by Anashree Nash

We Can Fool The World, Not God!

Its kind of funny
How people would sing
Praises to god
Go on their knees
To declare their love.
And the very moment
They turn their backs
Step out that door
Where worship and Hymns
Were sung
They turn into the monsters
They were before
They begun.

As if gods eyes
Are within boundaries
And left behind closed doors
That he sees not
The wrongs we do
Of gossip, adultery
Mockery of those
In your eyes
Not as worthy as you.
The list goes on and on.
How foolish we are to think
We can fool god when
When we actually fool ourself.

For we know not
The pain of the other
Or struggles they face
Day after day
The sacrifices they make
Or risks they had to take.
Don't be fooled
By their smile
Or their laugher.
Just because you
See no tears
Does not mean
There's a happily ever after.

Perhaps its time
To put our egos on the shelf,
To pick up a person
Rather than stabbing
Them in their back.
Throw a compliment,
Let the insults dissipate
Try to be understanding
Then perhaps
It won't be too late
To salvage that humane
Part of us
That determines our fate.
