We Gave Poem by Randy McClave

We Gave

You are weathered, tattered and torn
Just like my uniform,
Through rain, snow and hail we have been
Always for the win,
We both have seen battle and war
Upon this great land and also on a foreign shore.
And sadly, we will see it again.

We both always proudly showed our banner
Sometimes in a different context, aspect and manner,
And honorably we both were always there
In war and peace, and help and care.
You have been carried and worn upon the field
For victory and freedom neither one of us would yield.
I will always fight for you, I swear.

For freedom I will stand and you will fly
You still bring a patriotic tear to the eye,
And as long as you still do proudly wave
I too will still be proud and brave.
We were there when our country had called
I say this both proudly and enthralled.
We gave.
