Weary Poem by Gary Diamond

Weary

As eyes hang heavy
As neighbours cat starts prowling
Dawn is here
Why am I not sleeping?

There must be something wrong
Bothering me
Keeping me
Awake
At night.

I sleep two hours here
Three hours there
Can't see to make a cup of coffee
Waking noises, hearing voices
Seeing images
Nothing is there.

A couple of times a year
Some factor beyond my control
Leads me to this sleepless plateau.
What worries me the most
Is that
Each year it happens more.

Eventually I'll be getting three hours sleep
A month.
And what's worse
The prospect doesn't even bother me.
