What It Is Like To Fly On An Airplane Poem by Paula Glynn

What It Is Like To Fly On An Airplane

When boarding the modern aircraft
You feel a sense of soul crushing fear
Yet crucial heart beating excitement
You knowing you're bravely flying
High in that glorious blue sky
At 35,000 thousand feet
Your face at first as white as a sheet

Sitting in your comfortable airplane seat
You watch the other passengers board
No one on the airplane ignored
No one on the airplane bored
Because air travel is yours
And an important part of your working life
Whether you are flying daily or yearly

The airplane taxis up the runway
Slow at first but soon speeding up
Its wings lifted from air above
The wings soaring passengers
Through quickly increasing altitude
Into and through the blue sky at 700 MPH
Passengers being sold food and soft drinks

The downside being turbulence
The airplane hitting uncooperative air
Some people on board not to care
But other passengers very aware
And wondering if they need to beware
But soon the flight turns to normal
Passengers no longer feeling anxiety

Short hours to long hours spent flying
Every airplane ride different
Destinations all across the world
Destinations taking people everywhere
The airplane not designed to scare
Because advanced technology has
Made the aviation industry aware

That air travel must be safe
And have strict protocols
Every pilot highly advanced
Vastly skilled and deeply respected
Keeping every trip safe for passengers
In fact, safer than driving
Airplane travel easy with nothing to fear
Instead excitement and happiness here.
