What Makes A Person Good Poem by Randy McClave

What Makes A Person Good

Going to church doesn't make you a good person
It doesn't stop you from drinking, smoking, cheating and cursin'
It doesn't change who you are
Even if you are standing next to the altar.
Many persons that leave the church stay exactly the same
They haven't changed since they first came
They still carry inside of them the very same bad soul
But, only now they are wearing their church clothes.
And when they get home many will turn back
As if their soul is under a spiritual attack,
They will judge and hate and will mock and ridicule others
Even their own church's sisters and brothers.
Going to a church doesn't automatically make you good
As being a child of God we all truly should
Many are racists and judgmental and are truly uncaring
If you're poor or needy or an immigrant they aren't sharing.
Remember church is full of lost sinners
Many of us are lost and we just want to be winners
Instead of going to a pub or bar or restaurant wearing a fancy blouse
We decided instead to go to God's House.
When they go to church many believe that they are better
But, unto God they are still a debtor
Going to church doesn't make a person good at all
Making and wanting to be a good person is your soulful call.
