Let's stay at home and bask in evening light
That sprays us both with blessings through the trees
As we sit watching reruns from last night
While choosing not to fill our heads with tease
Of fly-by-night commercials younger eyes
Desire and consume and purchase cheap,
Because we've seen it all, there's no surprise
And at temptations utter ‘It'll keep! "
The world is big and grand and troublesome,
One we could fly to, drive to, take a cruise;
Our happiness together is our double-sum,
And chasing-racing leaves no space for blues
That we can savor sweetly in the light
We never tire of, with our side by side,
Our garden view, our wine, our coming night
Our warmth, your hand, my hand, our loving ride.
Reading this poem I thought I am old and grey! Have been watching leaves fly in sky and fall upon earth. Still old age has its own challenges that needs to be met. But with love and care we face all and find time to enjoy and cherish moments of togetherness. This is a beautiful poem written with tenderness.
How much to ponder about as one becomes aged. Thanks for the thought provoking poem. x
