Where Are The Children Of Ireland Poem by Francis Duggan

Where Are The Children Of Ireland

Where are the children of Ireland from Cork to County Down?
They are scattered all around the World from London to Auckland Town
You will find them in Australia and Germany and France
They leave to seek their fortune and in life to take their chance.

Where are the poor of Ireland? they have wandered far away
You will find them in South America, Canada and the U S A
You will find them in Johannesburg, in Athens and in Rome
And they earn a better living far from Land that once was home.

Pity the mothers of Ireland half of their children live away
They are starved of opportunity so in Ireland they don't stay
And most of the wealth of Ireland still owned by the chosen few
And the poor keep getting poorer still so happen to be true.

Where are the children of Ireland? most of them in Ireland do not stay
You will find them in Australia, Britain and the U S A,
In Canada, South Africa and Germany and France
They leave to seek their fortune and in life to take their chance.
