Where Are You? Poem by Kelsi Pope

Where Are You?

Tonight I lay here crying
Screaming your name
But once again,
you're nowhere to be found.

Tears of blood stream down my cheeks
Tangled up in blankets
Attempting to recover from the latest nightmare
I silently wonder to myself,
Where are you when I scream your name?

You're my mother.
Yet you don't seem like it.
To me you're another woman
A familiar stranger
One I used to love
On that I used to confide in,
when my heartbroke
or when the girls at school bullied me.

But now you never show that you care.
You say you love me
But I know it's only for show.
It hurts to know,
that you know nothing about me.
My best friend knows more
And comforts me more than you.

Ever since you married him
Eleven years ago...
My life has been hell

You love him more than
your own flesh and blood.
Even after the beatings
and court battles.
How can treat me like the devil,
while loving him as your angel.

I guess you never did care.
Maybe when I was younger
Only four years old.
But when I need you now
You wouldn't know
'cause you're always turning a blind eye.

Where are you?
I'm screaming for you.
This is your chance to prove me wrong,
to show me you care.
Will you take it?
Or just leave me in the shadows,
as usual?
