White And Black - Poem by ian westwood

The night is black,
The town is black,
The falling snow at night
Is white,
The falling snow at night
Is white on black.

The falling snow at night
Is white,
The night is black,
The town is black,
The falling snow at night
Is white on black.

The night is black,
The town is black,
The man is black,
The snow falls,
The town is white,
The man is white,
White on white.

The man is black,
The town is black,
The black man
Seeks refuge from the snow.
The town is white,
The man is black,
Black on white.

The town is white,
The night is black,
The man is black,
The day is white,
The snow is white,
The man is black,
The day and snow
Are white, not black.

The man is black,
The snow is white,
The day is white,
The night is black.

And the black man
Awakens to a new winter’s day.
For the day is white,
The snow is white,
And he is black.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This poem deals with racism. We have experienced this in the past in the USA and South Africa. But it now seems that the Israeli government is now also intent on this course. How horrific, considering the persecution and murder of 6 million Jews in NAZI Germany during the 2nd World War!
