Why Do I Write Poetry? Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Why Do I Write Poetry?

Rating: 5.0

My mind needs the exercise
Before it settles into rigor mortis,
A workout that can express
Inner feelings just like this.

To record lapsing memories…
Invisible thoughts transferred,
Taking quiet moments
Putting a life into words.

Countless drifting stories,
Hopes and fears
Joy and sadness
Laughter and tears

Give praise for all
From my first breath…
Those who have molded me
Reviving me from cerebral death.

Finding a therapeutic outlet
Expressing my beliefs
Merging out of a cocoon
Swimming beyond the reef

Combining beams of light
In the rhythm of a song
Touching with anticipation,
Breathing life before it is gone.

Really beautifully written. You do put an emotion, a life into words. I suppose I just have a diffrent reason for my writings. My poem 'Let my voice be heard' discribes it I suppose. But truly beautiful work, Theresa
