Why Does The Caged Bird Sing Poem by Jessica Lynn Sumahit

Why Does The Caged Bird Sing

Why does the Caged bird sing?
How can its days be so bright with such a dark surrounding?
How can its pain sound so beautiful?
look inside and see the tears, feel the pain.
100 needles will only compare to one singing note.
1,000 tears will only compare to one minute within one confinement.
10,000 sorries will only compare to one hour without light.
100,000 fears will only compare to one dawn without love.
1,000,000 words of wisdom will only compare to one damned day as a caged bird
but
100 needles will never take away the songs sang.
1,000 tears will never give back the time spent away.
10,000 sorries will never shed light on the hours lost in darkness.
100,000 fears will never repair the loss of love and feelings of loneliness.
1,000,000 words of wisdom will never give a caged bird its loss of song, life, light, love, or freedom.
for the caged bird's wings are clipped, and its song sad. for the caged bird is scared, scarred, and lost.
