Why Poetry? Poem by Lori Boulard

Why Poetry?

Rating: 4.8

What force compels my left hand to write?
My right hand wants to know
For it is seriously
Lacking
Sleep

Words stream in patterns
Like a distant rhythm
Must follow

No sleep again tonight, my friend
For I hear the music
Time to dance

Why poetry? for the hope that words will cast an enchanting spell! God bless every poet's sleeplessness.

Oh yes! I think we all know that experience. My favorite variation is waking up with a poem that has come for me at about 4: 00 a.m. and being yanked out of bed to write it down.

Lori, maybe you should find something for your right hand to do while your left hand writes... Great poem! ! !

Sorry Lori, but your sleepless nights are leading to some very rewarding reads for the rest of us! Hugs Anna xxx

That's a tired but happy feeling, may you have many sleepless nights, in a good way.

What force indeed? A good poem with a strong central metaphor of dance.
