Winter Poem by Holly Jamestone

Winter

Snow, white, frigid, chilling
Unwalked on virgin lace afghans
Shimmering in the porcelain moonlight

Unsynchronized winking gems on the lawn
Resemble a drag queen snowman’s sequin dress
All too shy to gaze at the moon

Rewinding the clock to a once green army of leaves
Chameleonized to gold, or red
Later surrendering to the ground

No celebration of life
Just dutifully into the compost jaws they go
Austere unclad extremities left behind

Muffled whispers echo through naked trees
Bare and vulnerable branches spread eagle
Signal the shift is changing hands

All watch cautiously in the stillness
As Solstice slips in, past ivory skies that
Relent to eyelash-catching white
