Wisdom And Belief

Rating: 5.0

For their loyalty, economy
and sensitivity to rocks coming their way,
a wise one in raggy togs
trains rats as dogs
and bears them on his shoulders.

A well-togged wise one trains dogs.

A believer says, 'Rats, dogs. What the heck,
I'll wear a claw on a chain around my neck.'

A poem glittering with wit and humour, about a serious-sounding topic. It is wiser by far to rear a chain around your neck to solve any dilemna.

does the topic charm refer to the claw 'charm' OR to the quality which i, Bri, exude from every pore of my body and soul? ? ?

i'm a wise one in raggy togs sometimes! AND i pick out my wives that way! ! ! i can't remember if i've ever borne a wife on my shoulders, or vice versa. here in a northern area of California known for marijuana production and (i suppose) consumption, i have seen some less-than-well-togged men with dogs that i think were trained well enough. there may have been a rat in a pocket. i did not see a claw, but i wouldn't doubt it. claws ARE cool around necks, unless they belong to your partner and are around 'your' neck! ! ! this will be a perfect poem for my/our September 2017 showcase (of and for PH poets and their poems) , found in my list of poems on PH. it is short and 'sweet'. it is NOT about love, or religion (well, maybe the claw?) , AND i (think) i understand it! ! ! AND it has a bit of rhyming and humor/humour to boot. to MyPoemList also it goes .......... thanks. bri ;)

Less chance of getting bit, I'd say. I wonder what species of claw was around the believers neck. I liked the initial jab that leads to the knockout in this poem and sensitivity to rocks coming their way.
