Wise Men Gone Poem by Sandra Feldman

Wise Men Gone

Wise Men go and come,
They were the World's
Once balanced light,
But now, all that is right is night,
And we are led by lying SCUM!

Your poem closes in a sudden rush of anger. It's an appropriate display of emotion directed against the false leaders of the present. But your evocation of the Wise Men in the opening lines I found very reassuring and serene. Their gift to humanity was the BALANCED LIGHT (wonderful phrase!) they provided. For me and many others one of those Wise Men of the past was Joseph Campbell. I was reading in his book on Goddesses yesterday and Balanced Light describes precisely what he gave me for that period of two hours.
