Wordless Pages Poem by Anjell Bryan

Wordless Pages

I saw a book on a shelf with the most beautiful cover
Captivating, enchanting; something I couldn’t wait to savour
In excitement I took it off the shelf to unveil its messages
To my disappointment the book had wordless pages.
It had maybe a thousand from cover to cover
Maybe it’s an enthralling story; I was left to wonder
Drawn in by what could have been but unfortunately never was
Building heightened expectations; is all this book does.
I skimmed through the pages and found very faint words
Words the author wanted spoken but had never heard
Maybe no one had seen it before or wasn’t interested
Maybe everyone left it behind feeling as deceived as I initially did.
Then I took the time as tedious as it were
To read the beautiful book deciphering each word
It was a tale of every emotion, all the things I’ve ever felt
The author was indeed an angel; to make what I masked so translucent.
I bought the inspiring recount of one girl’s intricate life
As a model of how to get through crowded days and lonesome nights
And on the last page, as I read the very last word
I realized that it was all about me that I had just learnt.
