Workplace (Senryu) Poem by Sandra Martyres

Workplace (Senryu)

Rating: 4.5

Piles of papers stacked
For review and approval
His pen is missing

The empty cabin
heralds another lay-off
Cleaner starts sweeping

Do as I tell you
yells the Boss impatiently
and resumes his game

You have that knack of hitting the nail on the head, but presented so beautifully, that even the boss might say thank you so much, taking it as a compliment at the first glance.

'Do as I tell you yells the Boss impatiently and resumes his game.' - How true...

The cleaner sweeping on the lay off senryu hits the truth Sandra. It's like a game of chess when someone is wiped off the board. Where I worked the lay offs were worked out about two years before it happened! The missing pen, a great one too. And of course, the Boss who does want he wants regardless. These are great as it is part of your life, and you can see so much. Top marks! Karin Anderson

These are three clever and witty senryu, Sandra, and quite likely to occur in just about any business or office during this current world-wide economic downturn. As usual, your phrasing is excellent. Carl.

Very enjoyable senryu's, Sandra. Whether intended or not, the potential pun of 'resumes' in the last one is classic! :)
