You Can't Underwrite Poem by Buddy Bee Anthony

You Can't Underwrite

Don't pick a fight
you can't underwrite
The end game
is for you to stay alive.
Get your honey from a mason jar
not a killer bee hive.
I seen your momma
ran off with uncle Bob
I heard your sugar daddy lost
all of his long, soft hair.
bank took back your town house
They never got their share.
The dog ran off
and your horse fell dead.
The best you can do
is stay in bed.
If the only way out is to
pick a fight
make sure it's a fight
you can underwrite.

There's times when
your best attack
is to take
a few steps back.
Brave soldiers in front
swingin a dulled blade.
While they're dyin' in the E.R.
You're
sippin' a cold beer
as the stand in hero at their victory parade.
Best you hold on tight,
to your one life.
don't pick yourself a fight
you can't underwrite.
Smoke signals
might approach you
draw you into
a scorching, fire fight
Burn your house down
clear to the ground
blow out your pilot light
Best learn
what's wrong
from what is right
Before your pots boil over
turning sauce pans into
a scalding soupy fright
Before you pick a fight
make damn sure it's a fight
you can underwrite..
