You Made Me Homeless Poem by Mark Heathcote

You Made Me Homeless

You made me homeless in this city
Branded me a fool
Branded me cruel
But I didn't splinter into glass
I didn't break into nothingness
I grew stronger and boulder don't you know
You made me want to hate you
But I didn't want to be controlled by you
So I forgot all about you
I forgot all about your sorry arse
And that's when you threw more poison darts?
But by now my heart couldn't be hurt
So I called your bluff and kept to all my convictions
I grew wings and rid myself of all my afflictions
And hung out with people
Who were more like magicians than anybody knew?
And soon enough, I didn't need you any more
And the city and all its creeps adopted me like never before.
And for the first time in a long time, I had a good day.
