You Said Poem by karin collins

You Said

You’re killing me
It’s all so wrong
Why did you leave?
It’s been too long.

You said your love
Has gone away
Despite the promise
Made that day.

You said that you
Could no longer be
My friend, my love-
To set you free.

But I just can’t
I’m sorry, too
I refuse to say
Goodbye to you.

I’ve tried so hard
To give you space
To let you be
But it’s a race.

The clock keeps moving
Yet time stands still
I feel I’m losing
Against my will.

And now that you
Have finally found
The dreams you’ve chased
You’ve left the ground.

You’re flying high
You don’t need me
You said, “Goodbye”
Then set me free.

It’s not as if
There’s fault or blame
The games we play
Remain the same.

You did that
And I did this
Sooner or later
We had to miss.

But you always knew
There was something wrong
You kept your secrets
Far too long.

I never knew
Your heart was torn
Resentment grew
Anger born.

I guess somewhere
Along the years
You lost your faith
In silent tears.

Why couldn’t you
In me confide
Instead of finding
Someplace to hide?

And now that you
Have finally found
The dreams you’ve chased
You’ve left the ground.

You’re flying high
You don’t need me
You said, “Goodbye”
Then set me free.
