You Shut Me Out Poem by Dorsey Baker

You Shut Me Out

You shut me out
I knocked
upon your door
but you wouldn't
let me back in
I was left standing naked
in the rain
with nothing to cover me up
my mind and body left exposed
to everybody and
everything in sight
you shut me out
you closed all your windows
all your doors
and locked them tight
I don't know what to say
I don't know why
you would want to
treat me in
such a disrespectful way
you shut me out
and now I know
what loneliness
is all about!
