Heart Of A Hero Poem by Dorsey Baker

Heart Of A Hero

He followed them
All of the rules
Respected the higher power
When he came
Face to face with him
Looked that old demon death
Straight in the eye
Made him back down
get back on his horse
And ride away!

A chest full of medals
Pinned on his shirt
Hiding his battle scars!
And the wounds
That his heart hid!
Secrets nobody would
Ever know
When he died
Would take them to
The grave with him

But father time knew him
Better than
Anyone knew him

That he was in the fight of his life
An old man battling loneliness
And depression!
