A Green Bench Poem by Khairul Ahsan

A Green Bench

Rating: 4.8

As the twilight was approaching,
Betab River was quietly flowing,
Fading sun rays kissed her goodbye,
As she flowed on, carrying on her bosom
Different shades of the afternoon sky.

The last rays of the setting sun
Touched the coniferous treetops and passed,
Working and visiting men and women went fast,
Back to their hamlets, as their day was done.
A green bench sat unoccupied, as there was none.

Only a while ago may there have been
Many couples there, and may be they were keen
To sit on that green bench,
And have some quiet, private conversation
That might have laid their love's foundation.

The lonely and restless green bench has many stories in its heart, only a poet like Khairul Ahsan can listen to these tales. A lovely poem.

@Valsa George, Loved your thoughtful comment, particularly the last line: 'The vacant park bench has triggered such beautiful thoughts in you! ' - Yes, it did exactly that. Thanks for the kind words.

As the sun sets and the twilight alone lingers, the public parks become vacant! The ramblers and the people who congregate in such serene areas to spend a beautiful evening go back to their homes, leaving the park benches empty. The vacant park bench has triggered such beautiful thoughts in you! A sure 10
