A Letter To My People Poem by Kay Tee

A Letter To My People

Rating: 5.0

Don't value me by the combination of letters that spell out my identity
Don't presume you have an understanding of my wishes and my fantasies
Don't describe my capabilities by the origin of my roots
Don't disregard the journey of my ancestors who have led me here with you

Do value who I am by my contributions and my insights
Stop discerning my worth based on who stands on the outside or the inside
Do recall The God you pray to in the morning night and noon
Is The same God who placed me in the universe with you

My language is no different than the one you learned to speak
We share familiar stories with distinct melodies and beats
The blood that flows within me
Is the same that gives you life
Do not forget we are strongest when we love and we unite
