A Mourning Dove Poem by Indira Renganathan

A Mourning Dove

Rating: 4.8

A dove wanted to sail with the moon
But settled with the lily the moon

Half way flown the dove up the sky
Saw the clouds hiding the moony sky

Failed and way back the dove saw
The moon with the lily in awe

One more try, it swooped down
To sail with the lily and the moon

Lo, down the pond upped to hold
The moon in the pond but moaned, coo ~ ~ ~

A while later when everything was still
And dark prevailed at its complete will

Woke up from the dream the dove
Saw itself on the tree..moaned coo ~ ~ ~

Birds too have dreams. Dreams of unfulfilled desires make them sad just like human beings feel! The pigeon's experience of flying with the moon was just a dream. This realization makes the bird sad! Well depicted!
