A Peace Messenger Poem by Bireswar Halder

A Peace Messenger

I'm like now a true fakir on this beleaguered earth
All I owned once has slipped away beyond reach
But I’m not moping over this, everything is transient!
Coming and going are illusions we live with forever.

I'm absolved from all desires or mental agony
I breathe life every moment as a gift of God
And with smiles accept whatever dawns on my life
Equanimity is my watchword, I take life in my stride

I'm a fakir today, I’ve nothing to give you, my dear
A little bit of true love in heart that I can share
Only your smiling face is the divine offering I await
It’s so much of a great treasure fulfilling void in me

Today I'm fearless, nothing left to be stripped of
Today I'm free to move wherever I like
The whole world is my home, I’m not alone
No narrow barriers and petty obsessions can tie me

Let me march ahead as a peace-messenger
Let me ignite the light of peace, love and hope
Dear humankind, no more killing or blood-game,
Let us all unite, sing brotherhood for peace to reign.
