A Polar Bear Plays With A Husky. Poem by Stephen Katona

A Polar Bear Plays With A Husky.

Rating: 4.2

In his icy domain he reigns,
harsh survival depending on brains,
and approaches a Husky in chains.
Fur dazzling so white,
he towers above upright,
with such incredible might.

I wait for the attack,
fearing my dog a snack,
but see them piggy-back.
They perform a graceful dance,
in a tale of romance,
happening all by chance.

You don't see every day,
a polar bear and dog at play,
against instincts to run away.
An odd looking pair,
a sight so rare,
prancing without a care.

Frolicking in the snow,
they put on such a show,
this Juliet and Romeo.
Rising high he descends,
a vicious attack he pretends,
all is well between friends.

A love of life they share,
I can only stare,
at this peculiar affair.
Each day the same routines,
show they share similar genes,
even canine fur our giant cleans.

Summer fades to Winter's day,
temporary was his stay,
he seems sad to go away.
With Spring comes his return,
filling my heart with concern,
but power of friendship I learn.

Each other they have found,
this curious giant and hound,
a sled man to astound.
After many months he's back,
big and hairy as a yak,
part of the same pack.

Dog and bear both caniform,
each behave as the norm,
my heart they fill and warm.
He brings his polar family,
just as gentle thankfully,
to continue their story happily.

Love this beautifully told tale of a Polar Bear and a Husky. The bond that can form between animals will always fascinate and continue to amaze me. Humans could learn so very much by watching how our furry friends interact and learn to love, accept and adapt. Saving this to my list of favorites to share with others!
