A Prayer For Peace Poem by vasudevan Desikachari

A Prayer For Peace

Rating: 5.0

Oh, my God the most merciful
I pray with utmost earnestness
For peace to prevail on Earth,
Which is now in a state of unrest;
Almost everywhere and men
have become selfish, their hearts
ridden with greed, contempt and frustration
And motivated by acts of violence
Which if allowed to prevail unchecked
Will annihilate this wonderful world sooner;
Therefore, my Lord the Almighty,
Please grant peace and tranquility
To prevail on the length and breadth
Of this vast world; and let people
eschew violence and learn to live
With love and care for one and all.
Let not men commit the sins of
Killing the innocents in your name
Let their minds and hearts be filled
With Love, mercy and compassion;
And let not people get back
To the bygone eons of barbaric living
And indulge in acts of indiscriminate violence;
Which will seal civilization
And lead to total unrest, unsure
And dangerous living
I irrespective of all scientific and technological
Progress that we make for our living.
Let people learn to care for the other
and let living be purposeful.
Let peace prevail everywhere
And in the hearts of every individual.
Oh shanthi, shanthi shanthi.
