A Republic Day Remembrance Poem by Suchitra Bandi

A Republic Day Remembrance

A history rich in culture and heritage,
our nation prides itself in being the best,
in communal harmony, in brotherhood,
it stood untarnished to the time's test.

Whether be it the unity we showed,
in driving alien invaders away,
or be it the love and care we show,
towards foreign guests who visit and stay.

We never let our hospitality fade,
nor we let our pride to fail,
but now our hospitlity is dwindling,
our pride, we are unable to hail.

And the reason, if we ask ourselves,
is the spite we filled in the heart,
we voice the 'I' now, but not the 'OUR',
forgetting that we are still the nation's part.

When we will realize the special bond,
that we share as the citizens of our land,
when we realize that INDIA is our mother,
that we are made of this soil and sand.

We will then be alive again,
savoring the real freedom of being free,
we will then understand the importance,
of INDIA being a republic, a country.

I liked ur poem as I also wrote on a similar theme of late. It is on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Plz go through it and comment if u have time. Ur poem could be more poetic. Probably u wrote in a hurry. Prosaic wordings should be avoided. Idea and passions excellent...keep on writing..
