A True Story Of Massacre Near New Year Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

A True Story Of Massacre Near New Year

Rating: 4.6

(dedicated to the Palestinians)

you stand grim
on hopeless victims
you dance grotesque
on helpless corps

the doctrines were learned
change and make you full of hatred
the dogmas were preached
change and make you full of greed

how dare you become destroyer?
how dare you kill creature?
how dare you spread fear?
how dare you pour terror?

why your eyes can't hear
the scream of those women?
why your eyes can' see clear
the blood of those children?

I feel it's not your ears
which def but your hearts
I feel it's not your eyes
which blind but your senses

was Moses teaching you
to attack civilization?
was Aaron guiding you
to break affection?

why are all the leaders mute?
why are all the doors shut?
wake up and send troop
to defend land of hope

do we need Federico Garcia Lorca now?
do we need Martin Luther King, Jr now?
do we need Florence Nightingale now?
do we need Sultan Saladin now?

I feel only God
who can punish you
I pray to God
to stop evil in you

go fight for freedom!
challenge for wisdom!
stand up for human rights!
May God give us all peace!

(with deepest sadness for the Palestinians' victims)

Dear Ahmad, I feel strongly about this situation in the Middle East which your poem so aptly describes. However, I think that both sides should cease from aggression.I empathize with the bereaved on both sides.

Ahmad, like you I feel sad for the plight of the Palestinians, for sixty years they have fought to right the wrong and gain their homeland again. But somtimes a cause only breeds more hate, which causes even more death and suffering to family, freinds and children. What is needed is a just compromise by the Israeli's to end the bloodshed. Just think if they felt love for each other there would be no problem and they could all help to build one land for all.

Powerful piece with sharp, penetrating images. I can feel the frustration and hopelessness. As you point out there are more worthy horizons to strive for.
