a vase.
from a potsherd,
an eye glancing at me
reflecting truth of heart:
I plant it in my garden—
soil fertilized with love;
from a thought,
a rosy bud
blooms smiles
in velvety petals—
making me blush:
it flirts with my instincts...
for a dewy kiss,
a tease,
a vision...
This poem has a mesmerizing journey from the potsherd down to the center of the heart.
In an earlier poem you used ROOT as an image of love. This poem goes much further in developing an ORGANIC image of love. It; s as if the that piece of pottery which strikes as an eye looking at you is a prophecy but it's still too early to odentify the content. In the meanwhile you do the work of gardening, that is, caring and nuturing, two more organic images relaterd to love. As the flower manifsts itself the interaction is almost intimate. Why else would you blush? And it fulfills it's earlier hint of embodying a prophecy - at the very end it is providing a vision. Is this a picture of the future lover? Is it an image of the power of love to create its own destiny? Is it a symbol of the centrality of love? I; m not sure, but my wild dsire is that it is asll of the above!
