Abstinence From Eating Meat (By St. Thiruvalluvar) Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Abstinence From Eating Meat (By St. Thiruvalluvar)

251. How can he be merciful if he does eat,
to strengthen his body, other animals’ meat?
252. No use of wealth to those who protect not their estate
and no use of mercy to those who, eating of meat perpetuate.
253. He who eats the savoury meat of a creature can’t be merciful
As the one who wields the murderous weapon.
254. Not to kill a being is grace.
And it is a sin to eat the flesh of the brace.
255. Abstinence from eating meat favours continuation of life.
The hell gulps the meat-eaters and opens not to escape.
256. If you renounce killing of animals and eating their flesh
There will be no sellers of meat.
257. If you feel that the flesh is the ulcerous body of animals
Must it not be eaten by anybody.
258. Those who are free from the feel of a blame
Will not consume the meat of animals bereft of life.
259. It is better not to slain the animals and eat their flesh
Than to pour ghee into fire for doing sacrifices.
260. Nether he kills animals nor he eats their meat
All living things will worship him with clasped hands.
