Admitting To Love Poem by Brittany D. Gay

Admitting To Love

The problem with telling someone you love them
is the waiting to hear I love you back
The silence and that emotional blank stare
makes you want to take it all back
And every word you say to them
always sounds better in your head,
You can hardly breathe now not knowing what to do,
your eyes have turned away from them but your heart can’t help but stare,
longing to hear those words from them as your heart beats faster though you are unaware, you start to think the worst of things and there silence gives you no relief,
and with a sniffle and three blinks dust appears in your eyes
As you are opening your heart to them and pouring out your soul
you start to think you don’t even want to hear what they have to say,
you’re just going to leave it alone as you start to sink inside yourself
and turn to run away…the I love-you too stops you dead in your tracks… as you think to yourself who knew…as they start to say to you
“you know the trouble with someone telling you they love you, is the telling them you love them back”
